Counselling Approach

Integrative

"My role is to support this process by creating a warm, empathetic, and non-directive space where clients feel truly heard and understood."

Would you care to introduce yourself?

Hello, my name is Leanne, and I am an Integrative counsellor. I have a private practice
alongside working at two schools in Hampshire.

Are there any areas or client types you particularly work with or enjoying working with?

I have a deep passion for working with individuals who are on a journey to discover their
authentic selves. Often, we find ourselves playing roles or adopting identities that don't truly
reflect who we are—whether due to societal expectations, family influences, or simply the
profound question of "Who am I?"

This quest for self-understanding is especially common among young people, and I find great fulfilment in helping them navigate this process. My goal is to support them in finding their voice, embracing their uniqueness, and gaining clarity about who they are at their core.

Why or what made you want to be a counsellor?

My journey of self-exploration began at a young age, driven by a deep curiosity about who I am. I devoured books on human nature and attended countless courses in search of answers. Yet, despite my efforts, something still felt missing.

This search eventually led me to counselling, where I hoped to find the clarity I was seeking. It was through the counselling process that many pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place, and a strong sense of self began to emerge. This transformative experience revealed to me the unique power of counselling, and it was this insight that inspired me to pursue a career as a counsellor.

Why the Person Centered Approach?

While I identify as an Integrative counsellor, drawing from a variety of therapeutic
modalities, the foundation of my approach is deeply rooted in person-centered principles. At
its core, the person-centered approach holds that, when provided with the right conditions,
individuals have an inherent capacity for growth and self-actualisation.

My role is to support this process by creating a warm, empathetic, and non-directive space where clients feel truly heard and understood. It is through this authentic, supportive connection that a strong therapeutic bond is formed, empowering clients to explore and evolve.

What has shaped your therapeutic practice the most?

Knowledge and wisdom. With the emphasis on wisdom. I watched something on Instagram
recently that brilliantly summed up the difference. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit
– wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad!

What does successful therapy look like?

Well, I think this is for my clients to define successful therapy. It means something different
to us all!
