How it Works

We've designed a simple, easy process to get support that is right for you as quickly as possible. We do not currently have a waiting list and can usually get you booked in right away.

The Counselling Journey

Step 1: Referral

It starts with our easy, simple referral form, which you can do in your own time from the comfort of your own home. Once submitted you can then click a link to book a free consultation call.

Step 2: Consultation

Our consultation calls are up to 20 minutes, free of charge, and are conducted over the phone with one of our senior counsellors. This is to find out more about you and match you to a counsellor.

Step 3: Therapy

We will then get you booked in for some counselling sessions. You can have as many or as few sessions as you like, and you can change the frequency to suit your needs at any time.

Step 4: Discharge

Once you decide that you no longer need our support, you can discuss coming to an end with your counsellor. You can come back to us at any time and do not need to re-refer.

Psychotherapy

Can I afford it?

Reducing financial barriers to therapy

Unfortunately, The Empathy Project does not currently receive any funding from the NHS or Government. This means that we have to charge a reasonable fee to provide our counselling sustainably.

Our 2025 session fees are as follows:

50 minute individual session - £65

60 minute couples or family session - £80

Please note we are deeply committed to trying to reduce financial barriers to accessing therapy. We use our donations and any surplus to provide our Community Fund. This reduces the cost of individual sessions to £40 if you are struggling to afford our full rates. You can read more below.

Your therapy, your way

Our secure counselling portal keeps things simple

There's nothing worse than complex referral processes or feeling anxious about having to call to book an appointment. That's why we've built our own app-like Counselling Portal that is secure and confidential.

You can message your counsellor directly as well as manage your bookings seamlessly. Need to cancel? Don't call us, just log in and reschedule.

Our Counselling Agreement

Providing a safe, ethical and confidential service

People speak to us about all sorts of different things, often subjects that are extremely personal. Being able to protect your confidentiality as well as keeping both our users and staff safe is an essential part of our work.

We ask all new referrals to complete our short online counselling referral form, which includes our Counselling Agreement. This covers our key terms of service, however you can also view this at any time on our website below.
